The UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – Mondiacult 2022 was held from 28 to 30 September 2022, in Mexico City.
This meeting organized by UNESCO represented a very important forum worldwide to discuss cultural policies and world development. All the Secretaries of Culture attended, and a large number of ambassadors from various countries.
I had the opportunity to attend as a president of the Union Mexicana de Asociaciones de Ingenieros (UMAI).
The inauguration was carried out by Dr. Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, representing the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with the participation in this ceremony of the Director General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, the Head of Government of the City from Mexico, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and the Secretary of Culture of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero.
The ceremony was emblematic, and we were able to witness endearing presentations such as that of the Carlos Chávez School Orchestra and Choir, and regional dances, showing off before a stage full of motifs that reflected the cultural essence and roots of Mexico, built with 35,000 corn leaves, painted by 850 Mexican children.
Among the speeches and thanks to the ministers of culture present, the idea of unity and an inclusive, multiple culture that seeks a path to peace through equality and innovation stood out.
The objectives that are pursued in common, such as the reduction of inequality, actions in favor of climate change, establishing public policies focused on sustainable development, alliances and the search for peace and justice globally.
I held several bilateral meetings with representatives from Sweden, Bulgaria, Cuba and Saudi Arabia, among others, with the aim of disseminating what WFEO and UMAI are.
It was a great event, with unmatched quality, organization, and planning, and it took place at the National Auditorium, and at Los Pinos Cultural Complex, formerly the Los Pinos Official Residence.
