The Institution of Engineers Rwanda (IER), together with WFEO, the Rwanda Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA), UNESCO and the Federation Of African Engineering Organisations will host the Global Engineering Conference (GECO) from 15 to 18 October 2024, at the Kigali Convention Centre, in Rwanda.
The Global Engineering Conference (GECO) is the world’s premier global engineering forum, offering a great platform to facilitate the exchange of cutting-edge knowledge, skills, innovations, and solutions within the diverse engineering disciplines.
In the context of the outbreak of the Marburg virus in Rwanda, and after having reviewed the situation in liaison with the event’s host, the Institution of Engineers Rwanda, the WFEO’s Executive Board has decided to cancel all in-person WFEO internal meetings, and to convert those to fully virtual meetings.
The GECO will be held as scheduled in Kigali, however, to adapt to all cases, the Institution of Engineers Rwanda will make it possible for WFEO speakers who would consider canceling their travel to address the conference virtually, and best efforts will be made to allow for online attendance as well.
In detail, WFEO Secretariat will provide arrangements for online meetings for Board committees and Executive Council meetings. The meetings’ schedule may be rearranged in comparison with the Kigali original schedule, in order to accommodate for the time zones differences. The Secretariat will revert back on this shortly.
WFEO STCs and PICs chairs are kindly requested to find the best suitable arrangements for their committee to meet either during the 14 October week, or at some other time if more convenient.
We feel sorry about this unfortunate situation, and want to express our gratitude to the Institution of Engineers Rwanda for their kind understanding and for quickly adapting.
