FEIAP 32nd General Assembly and 7th Convention

The Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE) hosted the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) 32nd General Assembly Meeting, 7th Convention and 1st Youth Talent Innovation Competition from 1 to 3 May 2024, in Taipei. The theme was “Engineering Resilience and Education for a Net-Zero Future”.
WFEO President-Elect Seng Chuan Tan delivered a keynote speech during the opening ceremony on 1st May and later in the morning he made his presentation “Building Blocks for the Net-Zero Future”, which is available in this link.

In his speech, WFEO President-Elect Seng Chuan Tan talked of the pivotal role that plays FEIAP in fostering collaboration and expertise, enhancing adaptive capabilities, and driving progress towards a Net-Zero Future.

“Through knowledge sharing, we not only amplify our collective wisdom but also save valuable time, a resource we urgently need as we race against the climate clock.”

He also said that it is a collective journey where engineering resilience and education serve as indispensable pillars, demonstrating that achieving a Just Net-Zero future is not a zero-sum game, but rather a collaborative endeavour for collective gain and progress.

On behalf of WFEO, he congratulated FEIAP and CIE successfully for the organization of the 7th FEIAP Convention. The theme “Engineering Resilience and Education for a Net-Zero Future” came in timely during the unprecedented climate challenges, engineers stand at the forefront of combating the impacts of climate change.

The FEIAP Net Zero event was a great opportunity to share knowledge and experiences on Engineering Resilience and Education for a Net-Zero Future.

The Paris Agreement, adopted at the UN Climate Change Conference on 12 December 2015, reaffirmed the goal of holding “the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels” and pursuing efforts “to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.” Achieving these goals requires concrete policies, measures, and actions from all sectors. Among these, the engineering sectors play a very important role in the global carbon mitigation work.

To underscore the determination of the FEIAP member economies to work together towards reducing global carbon emissions through engineering, CIE organized a Planting Ceremony of the first two FEIAP NET ZERO TREEs together with the Signing Ceremony of the FEIAP Net-Zero Declaration through the help of FEIAP secretariat and FEIAP Standing Committee on Environmental Sustainability, as part of FEIAP 2024’s important activities, during which two trees (the “FEIAP NET ZERO TREEs”) were planted on the grounds of the host enterprise CTCI (an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction services provider) in Taipei.
