WFEO participation at the 7th STI Forum for the Sustainable Development Goals


The seventh annual UN Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum) was held from 5 to 6 May 2022 at the UN-HQ in New York, during the 2022 session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The collaborative STI Forum is convened annually by the ECOSOC President and is expected to discuss science, technology and innovation cooperation around thematic areas for the implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs), congregating all relevant stakeholders to actively contribute in their area of expertise.

The theme for the STI Forum 2022 was “Science, technology and innovation for building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

On 6 May, four WFEO representatives delivered a statement, one of the largest participation at the Forum in recent years.

 
WFEO President 2017-2019 Dr Marlene Kanga delivered a statement at the Roundtable on “Science and technology Futures and scenarios for the SDGs and beyond” on behalf of the Science and Technology Community Major Group.

Dr. KN Gunalan, Chair of the WFEO-UN Relations Committee and ASCE Past President, of behalf of WFEO and the UN Scientific and Technological Community Major Group, during thematic Session 6 “Delivering on SDGs: Next Steps for the TFM and its partners”.

Ms. Reine Essobmadje, member of WFEO Committee on Women in Engineering, spoke at Session 4 : Thematic session 4: “Global digital public goods, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and connecting the world by 2030”.

Ms Juana Tapel, Chair of the Philippines Technological Council (PTC) Women Engineers Network, delivered a statement during Session 1 Thematic session 1: “Science, technology and innovation at the COVID-19 conjuncture”. PTC is a National Member of WFEO.
