Last 31 October 2022, the WFEO delegation (immediate Past President GONG Ke and president-Elect Mustafa Shehu) visited the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) headquarters in Vienna. The visit was received by Mr. Ciyong Zou, Managing Director of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Industrial Development, on behalf of UNIDO DG Gerd Mueller.

During the discussion, GONG Ke had introduced WFEO and its key activities regarding the implementation of SDGs, Mr. ZOU Ciyong had then introduced UNIDO and its strategy and activities. Mr. Tareq Emtairah, director of UNIDO department of Energy, had introduced UNIDO’s activity on Energy Transition. In their talks, UNIDO officers stressed clear and strong intention to work with WFEO together to promote Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) (Motto of UNIDO) and said that UNIDO is the closest UN organization with engineering. UNIDO invited WFEO to take part in their Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition (CEET) activities, such as the incoming African Summit in Energy Transition in Niger. WFEO invited UNIDO to attend the World Engineering Day 2023 celebration in Madrid and the World Engineers Convention 2023 in Prague. Both sides find there is a vast field of common interest to work together, and follow up discussion will be carried out after this visit.
